1) EWTD update:
No response from any deans nationwide when BMA asked them all to comment on how the EWTD will affect training in their respective deaneries. 2/3rds of doctors in England are currently compliant with the 48 hr week. It is planned that in Scotland, after August, monthly monitoring will occur to ensure compliance to the 48 hr week. Concerns have been raised as to how practical this may be given that it is difficult enough to do twice a year. New rotas are meant to be ratified by local committees, with the presence of a junior doctor at all meetings. In order to accomodate training, trainees were advised to devise their own rotas from now.

2) Rota gaps:
Overseas graduates will now be allowed to apply for jobs at the same time and with equal opportunity as local graduates. Prior to now the resident job market has been the first choice after a DoH ruling.

3) Specialty recruitment:
England - 45,000 applications in round 1 for 9,000 posts. 2, 500 applications in round 2 so far for 620 posts.
